ESFA National Cup

Walkwood into last 32
Walkwood Middle School progressed to the final 32 of the ESFA Under 13 Schools Cup this afternoon when they defeated Brockington College (South Leicestershire SFA) in a close game by 2-1.  The game was moved from the Redditch school's field to the nearby 3G astro at Studley Sporting FC and it was the visitors who took an early lead after two minutes.  Walkwood created a number of chances but failed to find the net when it would have been easier to score. However they deservedly equalised when a free kick was passed to Matt Smith wide out on the left and he curled his shot past the stranded keeper into the far corner of the net.  The second half was an end to end affair but the strength and power of Matt Smith came to the fore with 10 minutes left when he forced his way through the defence to score a deserved winner.  Walkwood will find out their opponents in the next round when the draw is made at the ESFA HQ in Stafford on Monday morning.
