Worcestershire Under 19 County Cup

Extra time victory for Droitwich Spa High
For the second time this week there was a decent crowd for a county cup final. Last night St George's Lane played host to the under 19 final between Droitwich and The Chase  and it was the school from the spa town that ran out winners by three goals to two. Supporters were only just settling into their seats when the school from Malvern took the lead through Dan Clift after just 2 mins.  Play was even between two well matched sides and Droitwich equalised after 27 mins through Joe Somers.  The second half continued in the same vein but when Robbie Cox forced the ball home in the eightieth minute it looked as though that would be the winner. Chase had other ideas and they forced the game into extra time with a Jake Paisley goal after 85 mins.  The game had been a physical one and there were a lot of tired players on the pitch as extra time began. Eight minutes into the first period Robbie Cox scored his second goal for Droitwich with a fine header from a corner and that proved to be the winning goal.  After the final whistle both teams and the team of four officials were presented with their mementos of the occasion by Worcestershires' SFA referees secretary Col Mortiboys.  The game was excellently refereed by Simon Brown (Redditch) who is also to be congratulated on his recent promotion to the panel of Football League officials.
