ESFA National Cup

Walkwood into last eight
Walkwood Middle School this afternoon reached the last eight of the ESFA Under 13 Schools Cup.  Highly rated Thomas Telford School travelled to the Redditch school and when they were 2-0 up after only 7 minutes it looked ominous for  the hosts.  However, Walkwood pushed forward and led by strong runs from Matt Smith should and probably could have been in front at half time.  The message at the break from the Walkwood management was more of the same and the break would come.  Indeed, within 3 minutes Jack Turner pulled a goal back and with the Walkwood boys continuing to mount attack after attack it came as no surprise when Ashley Lane got the equaliser with 15 minutes to go. The Shropshire school looked dangerous on the break and the Walkwood defence needed to be alert to their quick forwards, this they were and it was fully deserved when Jack Turner met a low cross at the near post to squeeze home the winner with just 3 minutes left on the referees watch.  The reward for Walkwood is another home tie against Ashton on Mersey School from Trafford, Manchester.
